Proko Gesture and Bean Drawings

The Bean - Figure Drawing

The Proko Figure Drawing Fundamentals has assignments to be completed for review.

Below are the assignments I did for the Gesture and Bean Drawings. I still haven’t set a timer for completing these. Being just 2 weeks in it still takes some time to get these drawn.

These drawings were done from the Mallory Gesture Pack that comes with the course. The image number is written next to the drawings.

Drawing Two Weeks and Counting

I have been doing Proko’s figure course now for two weeks. I have covered gestures and the bean.

I am currently spending about 30 minutes per day (most days) practicing along with the videos and assignments in the course.

First impressions? The course is exactly what I wanted. Very structured. Assignments. Lots of examples. I don’t have to go searching for anything. It’s all there.

What am I using to draw. Just a simple pencil, sharpened and practicing the official overhand grip. Still getting use to the hold, but I figure if I’m going on this journey I might as well go all the way.

Okay, let’s get to the drawing. I think I am getting better at the gesture drawing (I think). I’m looking back at some of my early drawings to the latest ones.

Gesture Drawing

Here are some of the first gestures. Not the best. I was struggling trying to get the concept.

Here are some of the ones that I did right before this post.

The Bean

I think moving on to the bean actually helped me understand the gesture a bit more. I will still need to work on my bean “design” (based on the review video of someone else’s work).

I am almost ready to move on to structure. But first I want to do a few more beans and gestures for review before moving on.

The Complete Review

Okay this isn’t the complete review, but if you want to see quite a bit of the work … practice … eh scribbles. You can look through this pdf document.

Starting Proko’s Figure Drawing Fundamentals!

I’ve decided to take paid lessons. At my age it doesn’t make sense to waste time fumbling through YouTube videos.

I did a few quick google searches and found Proko’s lessons. Many had good things to say about his classes and most importantly, they pointed out that it is good for beginners.

A quick glance through his work sparked my interest. He appears to be an pretty good artist (not like I have a clue what that means) and his focus on the fundamentals was a plus. I’m pretty technical minded and so the more structure I have in learning the better.

I paid $84.14 for this lesson (found a discount code by doing a google search) on January 2, 2021.

So here we go into my first lesson.
